Celebrating International Women’s Day
We’ve chosen Lindsey Richards, President of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI). Lindsey’s last role was Head of Planning at Homes England, where she worked in a consultancy role providing specialist advice to Homes England delivery teams. She was a member of the Garden Town and Villages Programme Board and worked closely with DLUHC on policy formulation.

Marks and Spencer win at the High Court
M&S’s biggest store is near Marble Arch on Oxford Street in the City of Westminster. In 2021, M&S applied to demolish the store, and despite support from the LPA and the Inspectorate, the Secretary of State refused planning permission. However, Mrs Justice Lieven described the decision as “nonsensical” and “astonishing” and quoshed the refusal. The viability and deliverability of any refurbishment was doubtful and redevelopment is the only realistic option. We await the final decision…

Jersey's new government elected
11 ministers have been elected during a States sitting, with Deputy Lyndon Farnham officially taking on his new role as Jersey’s Chief Minister. Reform Jersey leader Deputy Sam Mézec was elected Housing Minister. Deputy Steve Luce has been placed as Environment Minister, and Deputy Kirsten Morel is Economic Development Minister.

Housing Land Supply
The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) has updated national planning guidance to clarify how a four year housing land supply should be calculated.
The revised National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) was published just before Christmas (19 December). Under it, local authorities that have adopted a local plan within the past five year are not required to publish an annual five year housing land supply
